Spindle Jack Sizing
Calculate travel speed, required motor torque, or achievable axial force for screw jack gearboxes.

What do you want to determine?
Formulas
M = (F × Ph) / (2π × i × η)
F = (M × 2π × i × η) / Ph
n = Input speed [min⁻¹]
Ph = Spindle lead [mm]
i = Gear ratio [–]
η = Efficiency [–]
M = Motor torque [Nm]
F = Axial force [kN]
Example Calculation
Screw jack gearbox with i = 10, Ph = 5 mm at n = 1,400 min⁻¹:
v = 1,400 × 5 / (10 × 60) ≈ 11.7 mm/s
Note: Efficiency η depends on the gearbox type: trapezoidal lead screw drives are typically η = 0.20–0.35, ball screws η = 0.80–0.95. Spindle lead Ph and gear ratio i can be found in the manufacturer's data sheet.
