Zero Backlash
State without measurable mechanical play in a drive element or guide — the fundamental prerequisite for high-precision positioning, minimal reversal error, and maximum stiffness.
Definition
| Method | Principle | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Preload | Rolling elements preloaded | Linear guides, bearings |
| Dual Gear | Two offset gears | Planetary gearboxes |
| Spring Preloaded | Spring element presses flanks together | Servo gearboxes |
Practical Relevance
Zero-backlash gearboxes and guides are used wherever direction changes without positioning error are required: robot joints, machine tool tables, coordinate measuring machines. When procuring, the specified residual play (in arc minutes or µm) is the decisive quality criterion. TEA supplies zero-backlash planetary gearboxes for all power classes.
