Planetary Gearboxes
To complete our extensive gearbox portfolio, we complement our worm and bevel gearboxes with the high-quality planetary gearboxes of the PTSC series. These are absolute precision gearboxes. With a backlash of ≤0.1 arcmin, they are virtually backlash-free and maintain their precision over the entire service life of 20,000 hours. The planetary gearboxes are available individually and also in combination with our servo and stepper motors. This enables, for example, the realization of precise rotary tables. We are happy to provide comprehensive advice.
- Precision gearbox with backlash ≤0.1 arcmin
- Service life up to 20,000 h
- Near-zero backlash: ensures high precision in demanding control applications.
- Robust design minimizes maintenance effort and replacement needs

Frequently Asked Questions
Backlash describes the angular offset between the input and output shaft when reversing direction. In our PTSC planetary gearboxes, the backlash is a maximum of 0.1 arcmin, making them virtually backlash-free. This is critical for precise positioning applications such as CNC machines, robotics, and rotary tables where the highest repeatability is required.
Planetary gearboxes are generally characterized by high efficiency, typically exceeding 95% per gear stage. This is significantly higher than worm gearboxes and results from the design principle of distributing the load across multiple planet gears. The high efficiency reduces energy losses and heat generation during operation.
The PTSC planetary gearboxes are designed for a service life of up to 20,000 operating hours. They maintain their high precision throughout their entire service life. The actual service life depends on operating conditions such as load, speed, and ambient temperature. Under normal operating conditions, service life can significantly exceed the nominal value.
The transmittable torques vary depending on the frame size and gear ratio of the PTSC series. The distribution of load across multiple planet gears enables high torque in a compact design. Please refer to our catalog for exact rated and peak torques, or contact us for project-specific sizing.
The PTSC planetary gearboxes are suitable for installation in any position. Due to their integrated lifetime lubrication and the design with sealed ball bearings, there are no restrictions on mounting position. This allows maximum flexibility when integrating into machines and systems.
Yes, the PTSC planetary gearboxes are specifically designed for use with servo motors and stepper motors. Adaptation to common motor interfaces is standard. We also offer fully assembled combinations of planetary gearbox and motor, for example for the realization of precision rotary table solutions.
The PTSC planetary gearboxes are available in various gear ratios, realized as single-stage or multi-stage configurations. Single-stage versions typically offer ratios of 3:1 to 10:1, while multi-stage configurations allow higher reductions up to 100:1 and beyond. All variants maintain the low backlash.
